Dr. Dennis Merchant was born in St. Kitts and Nevis and obtained his Bachelor of Law from Birmingham City University. He proceeded to complete his Solicitor’s Final Examination with two British firms before his admission as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court. Dr. Merchant worked in the United Kingdom for several years before deciding to return back home as he obtained his Legal Education Certificate from the Hugh Wooding Law School in Trinidad.

Dr. Merchant is both the former Director of Public Prosecutions and Attorney General of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis and has advocated at every level of the legal ladder including the Privy Counsel.

In 2009, Dr. Merchant was honored by his alma mater when he received his Honorary Doctorate for his professional eminence and outstanding contribution to public life.
